In an effort to promote local shopping and dining, the Brookville Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Whitewater Publications, has created a local business coupon book. These books are being sold for $15 as fundraisers for local organizations, and at the same time give businesses additional traffic to their establishments. There are all kinds of fundraisers out there, why not use one that keeps all the money here in our community. - When you shop out of town, your dollars leave our community, most likely never to return to Franklin County.
- When you shop locally, your dollars recirculate throughout the community. The more money that stays here, the more extra sales that are possible. You or your company might just recoup some of your purchase dollars through extra sales made by others who are also shopping locally.
- Extra Sales equal more successful businesses, and more successful businesses lead to more jobs and opportunities. More local jobs mean more young people can choose to settle in our community, and not have to leave the area to find work.
- Occupied storefronts create a positive impression of the community, and attract additional visitors to town, as well as potential new business owners.
- Shopping by catalog or over the Internet may be cheaper, but do those companies pay taxes here? Do they contribute to the local community? Have those companies ever purchased a good from your company? Have they ever hired someone who lives in Franklin County?
- Shopping locally can contribute greatly to strengthening Franklin County's economy. A strong economy facilitates the efforts and organizations that keep this community a great place to live.
- "Shop Local" works best when we all do it, as often as possible, and on as many purchases as possible.
